Ground & Water Table
Along the Route 434 corridor and the river flats, the water table runs high seasonally and the soils are loose, gravelly flood plain material. Draining a pool down there without a pump running is how you end up with a floated liner and a floor full of wrinkles, so we keep dewatering going right through the swap. Up in Vestal Hills and out toward Choconut it is a different animal — tight clay loams over shallow rock on much steeper ground. Water runs downhill toward your pool rather than away from it, and the clay holds it there through the freeze. On the hill jobs we are looking hard at where surface water actually goes before we fit anything, because a liner cannot fix drainage that is working against it.
Water Source & Filling
Vestal is largely on public water, so most fills here are simple. The hill properties are more often on wells, and well capacity is the usual constraint — filling a pool can easily outrun what the well recovers. Trucked water is common enough around here that it is worth pricing alongside the liner rather than treating it as an afterthought.
